Sustainability model

Aware of the impact of our activities in the countries we operate and aligned with our social origin, we are building our Sustainability strategy.

We recognize the impact of our activities among stakeholders and in the environments in which we are present, in this way, we are committed to strengthening our management aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), an initiative promoted by the United Nations and that is frame of reference towards sustainable development for the world to which we aspire.

More than 30 years creating shared value

At Gentera, we are aware of the impact of our activities on the communities of Mexico and Peru, where we are present.

Consistent with our social origin, starting in 2020, we began the work to clarify our sustainability efforts. We have been creating shared value for more than 30 years, so this work seeks to align and maintain our management in accordance with the best global practices in the sector, in social, environmental and governance matters.

We define our sustainability strategy, approved by the Board, which guides our actions in this process of continuous improvement, its progress is periodically reported to the Risk Committee. We will do our best to measure our impact and communicate it annually, aligned with international standards that are useful, both for Gentera and our stakeholders, using a common language and with the transparency that characterizes us.

We understand that sustainability efforts generate greater impact by teaming up with other entities in society. For this reason, we are members of the Sustainability Committee of the Asociación de Bancos de México and the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores, our participation allows us to be aware of relevant issues and strengthen ties with companies that, like us, are committed to creating opportunities responsibly.

We are signatories of these initiatives

Gentera

From Gentera, in 2020 we adhered to the Global Compact, with which we acquired the commitment in favor of the implementation of the 10 Principles of the Global Compact, based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labor Organization, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and the United Nations Convention against Corruption. We actively participate in the 2030 Agenda working groups promoted by the Mexico Global Compact Local Network and the Business Coordinating Council.

Compartamos Banco

Through Compartamos Banco, we adhere to the Principles of Responsible Banking of the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative, UNEPFI, for its acronym in English, becoming the first microfinance institution to be part of this initiative.

Principles for Responsible Banking 

As a member of the Asociación de Bancos de México, Compartamos Banco signed the Banking Sustainability Protocol in 2016, it is the voluntary agreement that establishes guidelines to guide Financial Institutions on the path of sustainability. The Bank participates annually in the report on Sustainable Development of the Banking Sector in Mexico, aligned with the 2030 Agenda.
